“Loaded”

Tiwa Savage
The two Nigerian singers’ duet, which includes choir voices, shook percussion, and dramatic strings, uses the same effective formula as Asake’s Mr. Money with the Vibe.

Pageantry is taken seriously in “Loaded.” Choral voices and synchronised percussion emerge in powerful pulses as the music is graced by dramatic strings that give it a noble feel. The breakout debut of Nigerian singer Asake, Mr. Money with the Vibe, was defined by this recipe for success; as the first single after its release, “Loaded,” it serves as a proper victory lap. Asake is recognised for his appealing mash-up of sounds that draws from several genres, including Afrobeats, Fuji music, amapiano, and the praise and worship hymns of the Celestial Church of Christ. With the assistance of regular partner Magicsticks, this mash-up comes together flawlessly here. There is a geographical joy to hearing the music’s textures with the smoothest of vocal delivery as Asake brags about being “laden.” He does this with a serpentine flow that runs through the production’s various nooks and crannies like a river following a mountaintop. Tiwa Savage, who is also rad, gives the song more joyful self-love by addressing a sex tape that came to light last year. Who doesn’t fuck? Hands in the air!” she exclaims, interjecting a line from a Black Sherif song to highlight the ridiculousness of the situation. Their collective confidence is unstoppable.
